Clara is a 7-year old girl who arrives at her grandparents’ farm to spend a weekend. Surrounded by nature and with a lot of creativity, she invites us to reflect upon friendship, losses, faith, union, generosity and memories in a fun and sensitive fable. This story makes readers think and puts them in touch with memories and moments which are not often remembered, giving life to them again as the narrative unfolds.
The book is not limited to the child audience. It also provides adults with means to reconnect with their inner child and the values that nature and childhood time can offer.
Status: published in 2019.
Clara’s adventure continues: about to turn 12, the girl discovers that life is not that
“pink”. In her dream, like a monarch butterfly, she flies out of the box. She gets to know amazing places and makes new friends, while in real life everything can suddenly change.
The message of this book is about choices and transitions, how to deal with the death of
dreams, people, projects, desires… and also about opening up to new beginnings, new
experiences and new cycles. It brings the reader’s view to the understanding of a new
paradigm, that change is always the beginning… not the end.
Status – to be published.
The story takes place nowadays, with the adult character Clara facing and overcoming
challenges that life imposes on her and becoming a wise old lady full of great-
grandchildren. In her dream, the butterfly is free to fly but is trapped inside the box
during a terrible world pandemic, in which insects are prohibited from pollinating in order
not to be contaminated with the terrible poison from a spray from China.
The message of this book leads the reader to possibilities of liberation even when we
feel trapped. “The story begins, begins again, continues … changes shape.”
Status: in production
Release forecast: 2021 (2 nd semester)
The benefits of the book “Atlast – A Pink Box” do not end there. In addition to the first
book of the trilogy, Paula created “Atlast Journey – Action Book” to enhance the actions
narrated in the previous book which, in a fun, attractive and dynamic way, offers tools
for the readers to recognize their own identity.
To achieve this, the author had special participations in her team to support the tripod of
reflection, pedagogical validation and creative practical activities, such as the teacher
and PhD Vera Melis Paulilo, the educator Priscila Lacombe, the illustrator Patricia Sper
and the graphic designer Beatriz Gomes.
Like a diary or an orientation guide, this book can be used by children and even by the
elderly, families, educators and anyone who, like the author herself, opted for a
personal transformation. It’s just a matter of adapting the language of the activities for
the age group you want to work with.
This book was created to support the project Atlast, by Astera.
First copy of Astera newspaper (free distribution), developed to publicize our activities and assist Astera’s presentation during the World Forum on Early Care and Education 2017, in New Zealand.
