Project Atiara proposes to apply, in areas in need of ecological restoration (whether in
rural or urban areas), an environmental education program based on the studies of
natural agriculture of Japanese agricultural philosopher Masanobu Fukuoka. It uses the
“seed balls” technique, combined with P.I.C.N.I.C. tooling approach, where the child
becomes the main agent of social mobilization, providing conditions to involve and
strengthen their communities.

“Balls” made of a mixture of clay, organic compost and selected seeds are easy and low
cost to produce and don’t require soil preparation; the results of this technique have
been shown as positive and applied in several biomes around the world. In addition,
they provide a rich and vast field of exploration to consolidate the education program
developed by Astera.

In this context, we aim not only to benefit the physical and ecological space where it is
applied –with restoration and reforestation of native forests– but also to reintegrate
human beings into their habitat, reestablishing the natural, spontaneous connections
that have been lost, from generation to generation, in a playful and participatory way,
generating a sense of involvement, appropriation, protection and environmental
conservation.

Project Music & Motion

Project “Vibrando com a Música” (Vibrating with Music), created by Felipe Mello e
Souza with consultancy from Astera, started in 2019 and aims to offer the Brazilian deaf
community
the opportunity to have access to music, both in their curriculum in schools
and educational institutions, as well as in events, musicals, festivities, cinemas,
theaters, festivals and in their daily lives, through the use of a backpack that captures
the frequency of music and turns it into vibrations. It can be connected to cell phones
and devices through Bluetooth, and also to sound tables, and captures any sound from the environment through a built-in microphone so that people can live and participate
effectively in a more inclusive society.

Project “Atlast Journey”

Based on the reading of the book “Atlast – A Pink Box”, authored by Paula Mazzola,
Astera developed an orientation guide for educational institutions and families to be
adapted for educational projects for children, contributing to enable readers to balance
their emotions to deal with adversities. It presents, in a playful, dynamic and thoughtful
way, the value of nature, childhood and the social bonds of harmonious coexistence.

The following publication, “Atlast Journey – Action Book”, proposes to offer practical
pedagogical experiences as tools for the readers to recognize themselves as
protagonists.

It can be applied in any educational context, in person or virtually, according to the
request. Astera offers advice on the adaptation, co-creation and training of the mediator
who will apply the project in a participatory, collaborative and integrated manner with the
local culture.
